Greetings,
"Are you a past, present, or future Misawa Resident?" There is a wealth of information that you can use to make your stay more enjoyable. Hopefully this will help you discover all there is to do in Northern Japan.
Misawa is an amazing place. The city is located in the Aomori Region, in the Tohoku Prefecture (instead of states Japan has prefectures). The city has approximately 40,000 residents. The 40 square miles of the city is home to farmland and Misawa Air Base.
The US Misawa Air Base is a joint service military base. As a well maintained base it serves the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Japan Self Defense Force has many units stationed on the base as well.
The base shares a runway with the local Misawa City Airport. If you are a newcomer or just coming to visit this will be the first stop in Misawa.
The sound of the F-16 fighters fill the area with the reminder of the military presence and strength. The 35th Fighter Wing is home to the "Wild Weasels"
This is my families second trip to the base. We love the Japanese culture and people. We have enjoyed exploring the local mountains, beaches and shopping.
The food is delicious. Many people coming to Japan is expecting seafood, seafood and more seafood. Suprise! There is nearly every type of food imaginable from Italian, American, Indian, Chinese and many more.
Well there will be much more to come on all the local attractions, shopping and the best places in town.

I just wanted to let you know your site has been very helpful! My husband and I are being relocated to Misawa very soon. I also have a question, do you know of any sites to find rental homes? Whats the average price of a house for rent for a married couple, no kids? Thanks again for all your helpful information!
Wow, the Base Chapel! I haven't seen that building in a long time - I'm a little surprised they haven't cleared it off and built a new one.
Since it's right across from Sollars Elementary, sometimes groups would "book" the Chapel for a special event for the students. I remember being hauled into the Chapel as a kindergartner to watch a skit featuring a boxing match between Plaque and Teeth.
Hi there,
I am researching Misawa and have learned a lot from your site and would like to thank you. As a visiting family member accompanying my daughter on her business trip to Misawa, any information gathered for
my exploration while she works is appreciated.
